The NES Classic Mini goes back on sale next month

16 May 2018

A Nintendo spokesperson didn't provide specific numbers, but went on to say: "Our goal in bringing back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system is for everybody who wants one to have an opportunity to purchase one". The NES Classic Edition was originally released in November 2016 and sold out nearly instantly.

The company announced on Twitter that Nintendo's classic system will make a comeback and stay available through the end of the year on store shelves.

Nintendo seemed to have supply chain issues with the first run of the NES Classic Edition in 2016. Nintendo has assured that the gaming console will be available until the end of the year.

The Mini console range from Nintendo has proven very popular with fans and is likely going to be a top gift choice in December. Nintendo said players needn't worry about losing any hard-earned progress either because each game has multiple suspend points, so you can start where you left off easily. Each NES Classic comes preloaded with 30 NES games and an NES Classic Controller.

The NES Classic is set to be re-released on June 29th. It will be available from June 29, although it's likely that Nintendo will pull another stunt by limiting its availability in order to increase consumer demand.

The console was compatible with numerous classic games that were playable on the original NES, including Mario Bros, Mario Bros 2, Dr. Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Ninja Gaidan and Pac-Man (just writing that list made us desperately want one).

The list of free retro games included with the Switch's subscription plan include Balloon Fight, Dr. Mario, Super Mario Bros.

"Depending on the game, players can engage in online competitive or co-op multiplayer, or take turns controlling the action", the post continues. For a full list of games, check Nintendo's site here. There's the option to sign up to eight members of the family under a group package that costs $34.99.
