Every athlete who's won an Olympic gold medal in PyeongChang

11 Febrero 2018

North Korea's nominal head of state, Kim Yong Nam, and leader Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong, attended the games' opening ceremony. I think it was fast because it was cold. The human touch was evident throughout, especially in their selections of the key players in the show.

He's much better at diplomacy than the real one.

The North's Olympic "detente" is a striking shift in tactics.

And no technology was necessary to bring the dignitaries who spoke - IOC president Thomas Bach and organizing committee CEO Hee-beom Lee - onto the stage for their moment in the spotlight. This year we will see the debut of big air snowboarding, mass start speed skating, mixed doubles curling, and mixed team alpine skiing.

Earlier, US Vice-President Mike Pence briefly encountered Kim Yong-nam at the Games but the two tried to avoid directly facing each other, Yonhap news agency reports.

The official also noted that while Trump believes in talking, in this case, the issue is not about words but about deeds on North Korea's part.

According to a tweet by the Washington Post's Tokyo bureau chief, Ms Kim left a note at the palace expressing hope that "Pyongyang and Seoul will become closer in the heart of Koreans" and for "unification and prosperity in the near future".

Donald Trump has begged a lot of comparisons with the head of North Korea, from their mutual love of military parades to their at best apathetic attitude to free society in general.

For security reasons, few details of Kim Yo Jong's three-day itinerary have been made public.

Kim Yo Jong, 28, is the first member of the ruling Kim family bearing the bloodline of the sacred Mount Paektu, a centrepiece of the North's idolization and propaganda campaign, to cross the border into the South since the 1950-53 Korean War.

It was simple. It was powerful. Let them sponsor the hell out of it-and bear the brunt of the costs. Who's going to pay for it, you ask?

The Winter Olympics have helped ease tensions between North and South Korea, despite the North's continued development and demonstration of its nuclear capabilities.

"Due to impromptu logistical changes it (drone deployment) did not proceed", the IOC spokesman said with elaborating further.

It said: "Kim Yo Jong, first vice department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, exchanged warm greetings with President Moon Jae In and his wife, shaking hands with them". It chose Hyon Song Wol, leader of the North's popular Moranbong girl band, to lead a cultural delegation it sent to South Korea for the Olympics.

A senior administration official aboard Pence's airplane also told reporters that South Korea and Japan "are solidly with our alliance and the need to continue and intensify economic sanctions".

The 32-strong contingent were lead into the PyeongChang games by the skier. Not that I'm with the government, but I'm with the joint team.

"The vice present cheered for the team he's rooting for".
