AMD To Begin Distributing Firmware Updates To Patch Spectre Vulnerability

Intel was particularly hard hit by the exploits, forcing the firm to double down on security updates for them.

Meltdown and Spectre have been discovered in computer chips in billions of computers, smartphone and tablets across the world.

There are three variants of the bug affecting CPUs released over the last decade- two variants of Spectre and one variant of Meltdown.

Security researchers last week disclosed flaws, dubbed Meltdown and Spectre, that could allow hackers to steal passwords or encryption keys on most types of computers, phones, and cloud-based servers.

A Google spokesman said the company is set to announce its performance expectations for Android's chip flaw remedy as soon as Wednesday. "The security of the systems our customers depend upon and enjoy is a top priority for us". The vulnerability permits access to sensitive data, but it affects a much broader range of devices and impacts processors from Intel, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. And's Amazon Web Services chose AMD graphics processing units for a graphics design service announced in September. Some Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 users also report that the latest update for their OS has rendered their system unable to boot. It is not just Windows users who are suffering, either. Intel also claims that Skylake s-platform suffers from a higher performance impact and the data shows it to be of approximately 8 percent as compared to 6 percent of Windows.

Krzanich did say in his speech that Intel will be more transparent about security vulnerabilities like Meldown and Spectre. The difference is the Spectre and Meltdown flaws are the chip makers' faults, and not the software companies'. Spanning, while already having a robust patching process, will be adding an out-of-band cycle to address these vulnerabilities.

"Customer-First Urgency: By January 15, we will have issued updates for at least 90% of Intel CPUs introduced in the past five years, with updates for the remainder of these CPUs available by the end of January".

Updates were recently released for Windows 10 machines which will update automatically. These threats are merely new variations on an old theme. However, the emergency updates apparently caused overworking most Intel processors.

Some antivirus vendors have been quick to respond. That's right - they think these 10 stocks are even better buys. The fact they shared the solution publicly could be a big win for the industry at large. LinkedIn is owned by Microsoft.
