Reports: Liverpool identify €100m replacement for Simon Mignolet

A centre-back and a box-to-box midfielder represent very different talents, but his sale has funded the purchases of Virgil van Dijk, for an inflationary £75m, and the summer arrival Naby Keita.

The AS Monaco manager has claimed that the principality club will not let any of their major players to leave in January.

But, although the 22-year-old attacker nearly joined Premier League rivals Arsenal during the summer transfer window, Liverpool have been strongly linked with the Monaco forward most recently, making a deal more probable.

Sevilla are also interested in former Barcelona forward Ramirez but Villarreal are likely to win the race to sign him.

Monaco, who trail Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain by nine points, have been resistant to the idea of cashing in another of their prized assets during the mid-season window with manager Leonardo Jardim recently insisting his players "understand" the club's position.

Confirmation of Philippe Coutinho's move to Barcelona has intensified suggestions Liverpool will look to Lemar to fill the void left by the Brazil international.

It's also possible that Liverpool really have no interest in pursuing these two acquisitions at this time, with there being question marks about whether Mahrez would be a suitable fit for Klopp's side, as well as doubts about Monaco's willingness to do business in January.

The club confirmed yesterday that they had agreed a £142milllion deal with Barcelona for the sale of Coutinho.

Barcelona want to keep the defender and they risk loosening their grip on the La Liga title if they offload him. On the other hand, the specters of Alberto Aquilani, Andy Carroll, and Mario Balotelli loom large in the club's recent transfer history.

You could argue for Thomas Lemar to be the dream option here.

Additions are expected this month with the Reds still competing for the Champions League.

Rafinha has not featured for Blaugrana this term.

The Premier League duo have both been tracking the highly-rated midfielder since last summer.

If those figures lend themselves to suggestions that Coutinho decorated games rather than decided them, that impression is incorrect.

Perhaps Liverpool need not worry too much, though, as Lyon's Nabil Fekir might prove a suitable replacement. The Fab Four's most successful player in the air is Salah on 29.17%.

And according to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Klopp will try to lure 25-year-old Oblak to Anfield.

Liverpool will reportedly not move for Lemar this month.
