How are they chosen and what do they represent — Capital cities

The leader of the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has called for a new "intifada", or uprising, as protests broke out in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Bethlehem following US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The status of Jerusalem - home to sites holy to the Muslim, Jewish and Christian religions - is one of the thorniest obstacles to reaching a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians.

"We are strongly committed to the goal of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East, including the creation of a Palestinian state living side-by-side in peace and security with Israel", Freeland said. Sage Colleges professor, Dr. Steven Leibo, breaks it all down.

"This is long overdue", she said in an interview with "Power Lunch".

Incessant rain dampened reaction on both sides, with a planned celebration in one of the city's main squares canceled and Palestinian protests remaining limited, although a demonstration took place in the Gaza Strip.

"He will have risen to power peacefully through his charisma and his super-intelligence in Europe and then he will seek to make a worldwide empire".

Pence stood behind Trump at the White House as the president declared his announcement "nothing more or less than a recognition of reality". "He pulled the trigger, Trump pulled the trigger". Hamas leader Ismail Radwan said during a Hamas march in Gaza City that "we are ready to sacrifice our souls for Jerusalem, and we will not accept the aggression against Jerusalem which is the eternal capital of our people".

Egypt reiterated that such unilateral decision violates the international legitimacy, adding the decision will not change the legal status of Jerusalem as an occupied city.

Then certain events would happen before the "Great Tribulation", a period of great global instability which Dr. Reagan said would last seven years.

"His stated desire for doing the 'ultimate deal' is now a casualty of his own policy naivete", Kurtzer said.

"This decision has killed the peace process, has killed the Oslo [accord], has killed the settlement process", he said.

Senior administration officials had confirmed the president's intentions Tuesday evening.

Trump's decision has drawn sharp criticism, with the significant exception of Israel.

The impact of the decision - and incentives for Palestinians to continue negotiations - will become clearer when Kushner's team formally unveils an Israeli-Palestinian peace plan next year, the officials said. "He destroyed the two-state solution", Saeb Erekat, who long served as the Palestinians top negotiator, told journalists.

Jordan condemned Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as amounting to a violation of international law and the UN charter. "It is not something new, but it is an important but understandable step by the administration. This decision opened Pandora's box in the region", Yildirim added in a written statement. But Trump's announcement on Jerusalem threatens to scotch the fledgling effort.

All countries, including the US, have so far located their embassies in Tel Aviv, in order to advance the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a regular news briefing that the status of Jerusalem was a complicated and sensitive issue and China was concerned the US decision "could sharpen regional conflict".

Speaking in a televised address immediately after Trump's speech, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said the U.S. decision rewarded Israel for its occupation and that the "reprehensible" act undermined all peace efforts.

"He (the Antichrist) marches into Jerusalem and goes into the rebuilt temple, which will have been rebuilt during the first three and a half years of the tribulation, and declares himself to be God".
