Champions League: United, Juve into Last 16; as Bayern Beat PSG

06 Diciembre 2017

Group D: Barcelona vs.

Tournament favourites Paris Saint-Germain are showing signs of fallibility, after the French outfit suffered their second loss in just four days as they were beaten 3-1 at Bayern Munich.

Barcelona are already guaranteed top spot in Group D, and Juventus will be hoping to join them in the knockout stages by finishing as runners-up.

Tonight and tomorrow's final matches in the Uefa Champions League group stages will see the eight remaining spots taken for the last 16.

Nabbing Liverpool and Everton to win, plus Spurs to draw with Watford in a treble, ensured a weekend of profit for the column and, for the final time in 2017, focus now switches to the Champions League, including Manchester United's Group A clash with CSKA Moscow.

If United lose to CSKA and Basel do not win, United and CSKA go through with first place determined by head-to-head results.

Bayern hosts Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday needing to win by a four-goal margin to progress as Group B victor.

Benfica are yet to pick up a single point and will therefore finish bottom of the group no matter what happens on Tuesday.

Something will have to give, with City chasing a record 14th straight Prem win which would take them clear past Arsenal and Chelsea's back-to-back winning runs from 2001/02 and 2016/17 respectively.

It booked them top spot in Champions League group A - and also landed drew Jose Mourinho's side level with a 51-year-old club record.

PSG and Bayern Munich have already booked their places in the knockout stages but will battle it out for top spot at the Allianz Arena. PSG beat Bayern 3-0 in Paris and has a far superior goal difference. Despite a fifth loss in six group games, they limp into the Europa League in the new year.

Qarabag have just two points from five games and will therefore finish bottom even if they beat Roma.

Roma will progress with a win over the Azerbaijani side, or if Athletico fails to beat Chelsea away from home.

Roma knew they would go through from Group C with a win, which they got, although they could only edge out Qarabag of Azerbaijan 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico with a Diego Perotti effort in the second half. If both teams draw, Dortmund will finish third due to their superior goal difference.

Juventus will qualify in second with victory at Olympiacos or if Sporting fail to win. If level on points, Atletico will qualify due to their better head-to-head record against Roma.
