Israeli billionaire buys 15 percent stake in Atletico Madrid

17 Noviembre 2017

Atletico Madrid have been in inconsistent form over the last five games, winning just twice and drawing the other three.

Atletico are the third most successful club in Spanish football, with 10 Liga titles and 10 King's Cups to their name.

"It's not my fault if (the ball) does not want to go in", Ronaldo told French sports newspaper L'Equipe yesterday. Who will come out on top in the first meeting of the city rivals at the new Estadio Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night?

The Slovenian goalkeeper was speaking ahead of Saturday's derby match against Real Madrid, the first ever to be held at the newly-opened stadium in the capital.

The club, which is valued at at £555m by Forbes, moved into the 67,000-capacity arena in September at a cost of £277m according to club president Enrique Cerezo.

Atletico remains unbeaten in La Liga but has won only two of its last nine matches in all competitions. Real quite simply have to win this one, and we are backing them with odds of 6/5 from Bet365.

"We have a new stadium, we are struggling to score goals and win games". Israeli news website Ynet said Ofer would purchase a 15 per cent stake in Atletico.

However, Ronaldo's restlessness on the field has been mirrored by rising tension off it with more Madrid-based sports daily Marca reporting on his fractuous relationship with Real captain Sergio Ramos this week. It made its debut in the new venue with a 1-0 win against Malaga, and followed it with a 2-0 victory against Sevilla. It scored first but ended losing 2-1 after conceding in the last minute of injury time.

It has become a perennial contender in Spain and in Europe, and has been attracting lucrative sponsorship deals and significantly increasing its earnings from television rights.

The team's faithful haven't given up.
