Alex Iwobi takes sly dig at Arsene Wenger over Alexandre Lacazette omission

"Maybe if he'd started on the wing it would have been different, but it is what it is".

There's no doubting both Sanchez and Ozil's talent, but as the club's record signing, Lacazette has every right to be asking questions of Wenger's recent decisions. I think more substitutions should have been made in the midfield area: "Ozil was on the pitch, but he was just a ghost". By the time Lacazette was introduced into the game the Gunners were trailing by two goals, and while the Frenchman gave the side a lifeline with his goal, for the majority of the match there was a chasm between the two sides.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright said he had sympathy for Lacazette, who has not played a full 90 minutes since his start against Leicester on the opening day of the season.

But will Lacazette repeat those numbers at Arsenal this term?

He said: "Thankfully, Atlético weren't the only club interested in Alex".

It's hard not to read too much in to Lacazette's surprise exit from the starting eleven on Sunday. This was the second time that Wenger had dropped Lacazette, currently Arsenal's top goalscorer, as the same occurred in the 4-0 thumping at Anfield against Liverpool, at the back-end of August. Arsenal needed to get a result on Sunday to stand any chance of catching City this season, and by Wenger not selecting his first-choice striker is slightly alarming.

The loss means that the north London club are 12 points behind the leaders with their title challenge all but out of the equation.

Arsenal have another heavyweight PremierLeague encounter approaching, with a return to domestic action after the international break set to see them welcome north London rivals Tottenham to Emirates Stadium on November 18.

Alex Iwobi has suggested that Arsenal would have had a better chance of beating Manchester City had Alexandre Lacazette started the match.

Going beyond Lacazette though, this has to do with the future.
