First dog Nemo cocks a leg in Élysée Palace meeting

26 Octubre 2017

French President Emmanuel Macron's 2-year-old dog Nemo relieved itself on the gilded fireplace at the Elysee Palace in front of journalists, unaware that it was interrupting important negotiations between the president and the ministers.

Yes, President Emmanuel Macron was busy in a meeting with members of his government along with the press.

In the footage for the channel TF1, three junior ministers are in Macron's ornate office talking to the president about inner-city investment when Nemo relieves himself behind them.

"I wondered what that noise was", Brune Poirson, junior minister for ecology, said.

Another minister, Julien Denormandie, asked if this is something that "happens often".

Four out of five respondents said that Mr Macron's tax policies - including an overhaul of France's controversial wealth tax - cater mainly to the rich, while 83 per cent said they catered mainly to the heads of large businesses.

Macron and his wife took Nemo from an animal shelter in August 2017. "You have triggered a totally unusual behavior in my dog".

The Labrador-Griffon cross is believed to be named after Captain Nemo who commands the Nautilus in the classic Jules Venre novel, 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea'.
