US bombers fly over Korean Peninsula in 1st night joint training drills

A spokesman for North Korea's foreign ministry said last month that the more sanctions the US and its allies impose on North Korea, the faster the nation will work to develop its nuclear weapons programme, according to North Korea's official KCNA news agency.

The two B-1B bombers were accompanied by two F-15K fighters from the South Korean military after leaving their base in Guam, the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a news release.

Officials feared the rogue nation would test another missile or nuclear bomb on Monday or Tuesday as North Korean citizens celebrated the 11th anniversary of the country's first nuclear test and the foundation of the ruling Worker's Party of Korea.

They included parts of Operational Plan 5015, which includes procedures for a decapitation strike on the North's leadership if a crisis breaks out or appears imminent.

The statement, entitled 'US, South Korea Will Face Total Destruction', also personally attacked Donald Trump and warned him of his future conduct. "But one-quarter of their GDP goes straight to the military", she said.

The Air Force said Tuesday's overflight demonstrated how U.S. military forces "are always ready to defend the American homeland and how the U.S. stands resolutely with Japan and [South Korea] to honor their unshakeable alliance commitments to safeguard security and stability". You can see what a democracy and a market economy does, and you can contrast that with Vietnam, who we were at war with, with the Vietnam War. She said conversations with U.S. friends and allies indicated that such a campaign "is starting to have an effect, adding, "We're pleased with that".

Visits by U.S. warships and bombers along with regular joint exercises with the South infuriate North Korea, which considers them a sign of aggression and a rehearsal for an invasion.

Australia expects North Korea will continue with its provocative behavior in the near future, "but the stronger the international community's response is. the less options North Korea would have", she also said.

Mr Ri also said the North's nuclear programme is a "precious fruition of the Korean people's bloody struggle for defending the destiny and sovereignty of the country from the protracted nuclear threat of the US imperialists and a treasured sword of justice".

Lending credence to apprehensions of his detractors, Trump and his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson even refused to meet Iranian counterparts at the recent UN General Assembly session. But with tensions so high, the human error and impulsiveness of our political elite may well put us on a path of no return, where a call of "False Alarm!" is ignored.

Once the dominoes have been set, we are entirely at the mercy of our leaders' wits or lack thereof.

According to aides familiar with the Oval Office conversation last November, Obama felt he had conveyed the gravity of the situation to the neophyte president. Seoul, the capital of the 11th largest economy in the world, is a mere 45 minutes away from the border with the North and can be devastated by conventional weapons in a matter of hours.

The White House said Trump met with members of his national security team on Tuesday to discuss the growing threat from the North.
