Gerrard: Liverpool must 'pray' they can keep Coutinho

"No amount of money will change our minds", the email claims via Der Spiegel.

The emails show Barcelona's first offer for Coutinho, which was £72 million. And response from Edwards was same.

Jurgen Klopp's side saw off the danger, but Gerrard believes there is only so long they can keep hold of the Brazil international.

The deal would have seen Coutinho pocket £20m per year, with his agent reportedly receiving a £9m fee if he could negotiate a transfer fee of BELOW £90m.

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a trip to Spartak Moscow as they look to take a step towards the last 16 of Europe's elite club competition.

"After the goal they scored [to make it 3-2] it gave them a little bit of confidence and it also took a little bit of confidence off us because it was really tough and they kept pushing, and we had to defend with all that we've got".

In a 20-page document notes that, if it had been closed operation, Barcelona had paid 10 million euros to agent of Coutinho, Giuliano Bertolucci, if signing would have exceeded 100 million euros. Why suddenly, unidentified family members of Coutinho were revealing previously-unknown resentments between Coutinho and Klopp.

While Liverpool made it clear time and again, most recently in these leaked emails, that Coutinho hadn't been for sale at any price, the lowball bids, 'mes que un club' bullying mentality, constant lying to a gullible and complicit Catalan media, and underhanded tactics meant to unsettle the player and fracture his relationship with club were enough to leave a permanent bad taste in ones mouth.

"Coutinho is a fantastic player", he said. FC Barcelona is a great club.

The 25-year old did not agitate for a move to Spain but he was flattered, naturally.
