Wenger: Arsenal players suffered food poisoning before Bayern game

20 Julio 2017

Diego Costa meanwhile has seen Atletico Madrid distance themselves from a move for him this summer, with their president claiming he will only return to Madrid on holiday, and the club will not be landing anyone during their ban.

Arsene Wenger wants Arsenal to sign Leon Goretzka this summer, according to the latest edition of SportBild.

After Alexis Sanchez dropped a big hint on Sunday that he wants to leave Arsenal, captain Per Mertesacker appealed to let the last season's top scorer for the club be alone and decide for himself.

The Chile international gave his clearest hint yet that he would like to leave, saying on Saturday he wanted to play in the Champions League.

City are also hoping to secure the signing of Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy, though the French club have been holding out for more than £50 million since City lost out on Dani Alves and signed Kyle Walker for an initial fee of £45m.

'We have played for 20 years in the Champions League, ' said the Arsenal boss.

Arsenal's greater financial strength now certainly makes it easier to say 'no' but Wenger also pointed to Sanchez's age and how he is several years younger than Van Persie in 2012.

The Inter squad were due to fly to Nanjing, China yesterday for the second leg of their pre-season tour but the 28-year-old was not expected to board the flight.

Wenger, however, has once again stressed in his latest update on the transfer saga that Sanchez will be 100% staying where he is.

"My idea is to play in and win the Champions League".

"We are playing here with guys who maybe will not continue, or with players who are coming but are not here". Players come, players go.

All the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours from across the British and European press on Monday, July 17.

But rebellious and resistant is this new, more aggressive Wenger. I said many times last season and I have not changed a word of what I said.

Wenger's back is against the wall to convince Sanchez to stay.
