CODY Bellinger became the first rookie to hit for the cycle in Los Angeles Dodgers history in a 7-1 Major League Baseball win over the Marlins in Miami, Florida, on Saturday. The Dodgers and Astros are each on pace to win 100-plus games, something that hasn't happened for two teams in a single season since the St. Louis Cardinals and New York Yankees did so in 2004.
The Miami Marlins will look to avoid the sweep and get their first win after the all-star break after their loss in game two on Saturday. He's joined the ranks of Jackie Robinson, Gil Hodges, Wes Parker and Orlando Hudson. Bellinger is only the third player to hit for a cycle since the team moved to Los Angeles and is the first rookie to pull it off.
Green in the past two seasons has put up his best catch rates, hauling in 65.2 percent of his targets in 2015 and 66 percent last season.
"How long is it a hot streak or this is just us?" ace Clayton Kershaw said.
NOTES: Marlins manager Don Mattingly said 2B Dee Gordon (neck spasms) should play Monday when Miami opens a three-game series against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.
"We're winning a lot of games, it's fun and we've got a really good team", Kershaw said.
Miami Marlins right fielder Giancarlo Stanton lost his glove, but the Los Angeles Dodgers never lost their cool. O'Grady gave up a total of five earned runs over his final 30 innings with the Zephyrs.
"I think he feels the same as me - we just want to do well and contribute". Alex Wood remained unbeaten, getting the win to get to 11-0 this season after throwing six innings of three hit, shutout baseball while striking out four.
The seventh-year pro out of the University of Georgia in 2015 caught 86 passes for 1,297 yards, 15.1 per reception, and scored 10 touchdowns.
The defending-champion Chicago Cubs started the season as the consensus favorites, but, after a disappointing start, were overtaken in May by the Dodgers, Astros, Nationals and Indians. Brandon McCarthy (6-3) takes the mound in the opener against the Marlins in his second start since coming off the disabled list.
The Dodgers are rarely out of games, either.
"Management has solved the riddle of brittle players by stockpiling more talent than the competition, especially pitchers", wrote Ken Gurnick, a Dodgers beat writer for MLB.com. Chris O'Grady (1-1), making his second career start, allowed three runs in five innings.
"Everybody's asking, 'Is the ball juiced?"
